Jim Burke Retires
After many years of dedicated service, Jim Burke stepped down as a Director of World Billiards in December 2025.
Jim’s contribution to the game of English Billiards has been immense, influential, and lasting. A long-standing member of the World Billiards Board, Jim has played a pivotal role not only in the governance of the sport, but in shaping the systems that underpin its modern-day operation.
Bringing with him a background in computer science and decades of professional experience in web applications, Jim became World Billiards’ online specialist during his initial term as a Director from 2012 to 2017. He later rejoined the Board in 2019 as Company Secretary, continuing to provide invaluable technical insight and steady leadership.
Jim’s most enduring legacy is the development of the World Billiards events and results platform, wbeventsonline.com. Designed and written by Jim, the system has become the backbone of tournament management for World Billiards, housing over a decade of results data and supporting events across the globe. Players, officials, organisers and fans alike rely on the platform for accurate draws, results, statistics and rankings – a testament to Jim’s vision and attention to detail.
Much of Jim’s work has taken place quietly behind the scenes, but its impact has been felt throughout the sport. His commitment, technical expertise and willingness to give his time have helped professionalise the running of events and preserve the competitive history of English Billiards for future generations.
As Jim steps down from his role on the Board, World Billiards extends its sincere thanks and appreciation for his outstanding service. His contribution to the administration and development of the game will continue to benefit the sport long after his departure.
We wish Jim all the very best and thank him for everything he has given to World Billiards and to English Billiards worldwide.
