Our thanks to Martin Goodwill
10 years ago, there were no WPBSA billiards coaches. It was Phil Mumford, Managing Director of World Billiards at that time, who had the vision to get the ball rolling and convinced Martin Goodwill to set up a WBL Coaching Scheme. Martin was a great choice for head coach – he quite literally wrote the book on how to play billiards (three books in fact).
In conjunction with the WPBSA, Martin developed the WBL Coaching Course and over the years he has advanced it into what we have today. Some key aspects are an online 50-question examination, child protection/safeguarding training, video analysis, on-table analysis and practical examinations. The result of this is that WBL now have 64 WPBSA coaches in 9 different countries plus examiners to run courses in 4 different countries. WBL would like to thank Martin for his outstanding contribution to our sport and his dedication to coaching.
Martin feels that it’s now time to hand over the baton and is stepping down from his role. He says: “I’d like to thank the Coaches from WBL who were such fun to work with and helped to make the Courses run smoothly. Thank you Jason Colebrook, Phil Welham, Peter Gilchrist, Roxton Chapman, David Causier and Rob Hall. Also, a big thank you to the WPBSA who were very supportive throughout the last 10 years. Chris Lovell and Lisa Bray were always on hand to support WBL but a special thank you must go to Jason Ferguson, who supported and trusted me and approved everything I ever asked for. It was so important that Jason awarded WBL the privilege and approval to accredit Examiners in different countries. These Examiners can then run Coaching Courses in order to progress the beautiful game of billiards”.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the new head coach.
