World Champion Mike Russell defeated India’s Dhvaj Haria in the final of the opening event, the Vimy Ridge Classic. In the semi-finals, Russell compiled the highest break of the event (369) in his win over Dhruv Sitwala.
The 2017 Vimy Ridge Classic and 2017 Americas’ Billiards Cup were held at the Anavets Assiniboia Unit #283 club in Winnipeg, Canada between Saturday 27th May & Friday 2nd June. Some early matches were played at a nearby legion club.
The Vimy Ridge Classic is a Level 3 World Ranking event with £2000+ prize money and full ranking points. It is played in the timed format and acts as a warm-up event for the main Americas’ Cup which is a Level 5 Major World Ranking event with £8000 prize money and double ranking points.
As last time, the Americas’ Billiards Cup is played on the single game, long-up format, replicating how the local players play in the Winnipeg Veterans English Billiards League.

World Champion Mike Russell completed the double in Winnipeg by lifting the Americas Cup following his earlier victory in the Vimy Ridge Classic. Russell was in top gear as he breezed through his last 16 and last 8 matches by margins of 442 and 650 points. In the semi-finals, Russell again faced India’s Dhruv Sitwala. In a repeat of the Vimy Ridge Classic, he compiled the event’s highest break in this match with a 370 and won comfortably by 1000-211. He then defeated Englishman Rob Hall in the final by 1250-516.
