2017 LITEtask World Billiards Championship

Champion: Dave Causier

Runner Up: Peter Gilchrist

The 2017 LITEtask World Billiards Championship has finished at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds with Dave Causier doing the treble for the second time in three years.

Causier won the World Open, the Short Format World Championship and the Long Format World Championship, repeating the feat he achieved in 2015. No other player has ever achieved this treble.

In the World Open he defeated Peter Gilchrist 502-387 in the 90 minute final, followed by an 8-4 win over India’s Sourav Kothari in the final of the short ‘frames’ format World Championship and finally another win over Peter Gilchrist in the long ‘up’ format World final.

Causier was in devastating form in the first session of the long format final today, the highest break of the tournament (495) helping him to an almost unassailable lead of 1061-126 over Gilchrist in one of the most one sided sessions we have seen in recent finals. Peter Gilchrist made a huge effort to get back in to the match in session two, but even with breaks of 205 & 378 couldn’t reduce his arrears enough to put Causier under any real pressure, the final score being 1500-779.

Dave Causier has now won six World Championship titles in various formats, and is now third on the all time list of champions in the WPBSA era; Mike Russell (12) and Rex Williams (7) being the only players to have won more.
