Champion: Peter Gilchrist
Runner Up: Robert Marshall
Peter Gilchrist won the last World Billiards event of 2016 with victory at the newly formed LITEtask Borders Open in Carlisle.
One of English Billiards’ finest ever technicians, Gilchrist was rarely troubled throughout the weekend.
He qualified for the Knockout portion of the competition after comfortably winning all three of his Group matches. With this formidable record he was seeded straight into the Quarter-Finals where he put away multiple time Scottish National Champion Dave Sneddon 790-257. Jonathan Marwood was then dispatched 716-308 in the Last 4 to set up a Final meeting with the also unbeaten Robert Marshall.
However, the tournament climax was far from a contest, with the eventual champion rattling in breaks of 417, 247, 147 and 265 during a dominant 1150-126 success.
Along with the additional high break bonus, Gilchrist banks £510 for his work in the North-East of England.
It has been a particularly busy time for the Singaporean representative – only last week he was in Bengaluru, India for the IBSF World Championships.
There he beat Sourav Kothari in the final of the Long Up Format, and then also reached the final of the 150up Points Format before being denied the double by Pankaj Advani.
Peter Shelley won the Plate competition after beating fellow Englishman Brian Pritchard 345-96 in the Final.
