2018 NSC Open

The 2018 Northern Snooker Centre Open took place on Saturday & Sunday 18th & 19th August at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds.

Multiple World Champion Dave Causier secured his first tournament title since the British Open in December last year with a 749-148 win over Rob Hall in the final. Causier also took the high break prize with a break of 535 in his quarter final against Barry Russell.

2018 Pacific International

Held at the Reventon Academy, Melbourne Australia.

The event starts with a knock-out seeded snooker tournament, with a plate event, with a prize pool of $12,500 AUD. It is followed by a round-robin 150-up format billiards tournament which always attracts a large strong field – also with a prize pool of $12,500.

2018 Asian Grand Prix

Asian Grand Prix Entry Form

We are pleased to announce that the Asian Grand Prix will proceed in Singapore from June 2nd to June 6th. The event will carry $7500 (Singapore) prize money and be a level 5 World Ranking Event with double ranking points. Unfortunately due to some unforeseen circumstances we are limited to the use of three tables at the Singapore Cuesports Academy. Players will get the maximum amount of playing time that is practical given entry numbers and available facilities. The format will be 100-up. Players will be required to referee matches for other players during both the round-robin and early knock-out stages, up to the quarter-finals. Referee duties will be indicated on the playing schedule.

World Billiards thanks Cuesports Singapore for overcoming some issues that presented themselves and hosting this premiere event. The entry form can be downloaded from the link at the top of the page. It is now safe for players to commit to travel arrangements. A recommendation for accommodation will be announced.

PLAYERS MEETING AND DINNER (update 18th April)

There will be a players briefing at the Academy on Friday June 1st, from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm. There will be a buffet dinner reception for players following the meeting.

ACCOMMODATION РHotel Booking dates extended

Holiday Inn Express, Singapore, Katong. 88 East Coast Road, Katong, 5 minutes walk from the venue. $145 nett per night for a twin share room including breakfast & WiFi throughout the hotel. Rooms must be booked through the Singapore Association and by 24th May (this is the holiday season in Singapore).

Strachan 6811 and Aramith are now also sponsors of the event. (Players will be required to wear sponsor logos during the event).

2017 Queensland Open

The Queensland Open is a long standing event dating back to 1990. This year it has been adopted as a world ranking tournament for the first time. Former Oceania and Australian billiards champion Danik Lucas is undefeated in this tournament since 2001 and will be going for his 17th consecutive Queensland Open title.

Clive Everton

 

We were fortunate to have renowned commentator and Snooker Scene editor Clive Everton providing commentary for the quarter, semi and final of the long format World Championship.

Most of you will know Clive from his many years commentating on professional snooker. He is also a billiards aficionado and a former player of repute having won the Welsh billiards championship on a number of occasions.

In 2017 he was inducted in to the World Snooker Hall of Fame for his services to billiards and snooker.

2017 LITEtask World Women’s Championship

The 2017 LITEtask World Women’s Billiards Championship took place on Thursday 26th October at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds.

Emma Bonney claimed her 12th World title with a 295 – 185 win over Eva Palmius in the final.

Bonney was actually beaten in one of her group matches by 2015 finalist Rochy Woods, meaning the group went to aggregate points to decide who went through, Woods losing out by 113 points.

The Australian Open is the regional major event for Oceania. It joins the European Open and Americas Cup as our biggest events outside of the World Championship.

This tournament will be preceded by the Lance Pannell Snooker Classic on 10th – 12th June which is an Australian snooker ranking tournament and is open to anyone to enter. It is expected that this event will also have significant prize money available. Obviously anyone travelling to the Pacific International who also plays snooker could play in this event. Following the Australian Open is the Australian National Billiards Championship which as the name suggests is a closed event, open to Australian citizens only.

These events have been made possible largely due to the efforts of our Oceania representative on the International Development Committee and Billiards Australia, President Jason Colebrook from Australia and Wayne Carey from New Zealand, both of whom have worked tirelessly over the last few years to bring these events to fruition.

Although Wayne has now retired from active involvement in running the New Zealand events, the ground work he put in over recent years was invaluable in securing world ranking status for these tournaments.

Our thanks to both Jason and Wayne for their hard work, and also to their respective NGBs: ABSC and NZBSA for their cooperation and support in making these events possible.

2017 Vimy Ridge Classic / Americas’ Billiards Cup

The 2017¬†Vimy Ridge Classic and 2017¬†Americas’ Billiards Cup¬†were held at the Anavets Assiniboia Unit #283 club in Winnipeg, Canada between Saturday 27th May & Friday 2nd June. Some early matches were played at a nearby legion club.

The Vimy Ridge Classic is¬†a Level 3 World Ranking event with ¬£2000+ prize money and full ranking points. It is played in the timed format and acts as a warm-up event for the main Americas’ Cup which is¬†a Level 5 Major World Ranking event with ¬£8000 prize money and double ranking points.

As last time, the Americas’ Billiards Cup is played on the single game, long-up format, replicating how the local players play in the Winnipeg Veterans English Billiards League.
